Nirav Rao

Fingerstyle Guitarist, 20

Based in the Chicagoland area, I discovered a musical passion at the age of 7 while absorbing the sounds of my favorite songs from the car radio and singing along. It was this intimate connection to music (read: inability to hold a tune with my voice) that inspired me to become a fingerstyle guitarist. This website is designed to help you get to know me better, and be a part of my creative process. Here, you can read about me and what I'm up to via my guitarist blog, download the tabs for my arrangements, and watch my covers, One last thing. I'm really really really glad to have you here. Your support through views, likes, comments, and subscriptions means a whole lot. So thank you.

How I Do What I Do

For those curious...

Choosing A Song

Choosing the song to arrange is the first step in my musical process. First, I open Spotify on my phone. Then I go to the "Global Top 50" playlist, and listen to what's hot. That's it. Just generic pop and rap, non-stop. That's what most of my songs are, because that's also what gets requested the most. You'll notice that I go  4 or 5 videos like this on my YouTube channel before my brain threatens to implode due to overexposure to the same type of music, Hence the occasional unique upload.

My Recording Process

As an experienced musician, I use only the newest recording and editing technology. To record audio, I put my phone somewhere in the same room as me, and start playing. My audio editing skills are really bad, so I just do that until I get a perfect take. For recording video, I stack books on a stool to get the desired height, put a phone on top of those books, and point the phone camera at me. Then I throw those into some cheap free editing software I found online and layer the audio on the visuals. Impressive setup, I know.

Tabbing My Arrangements

After years of not knowing how to read music or how to navigate music theory, I developed relative pitch, which allows me to listen to a song and play it by ear. That's how I arrange my music, and make tabs for you guys. Everything is 100% free, and always will be. BUT, if you want to skip annoying wait times for the tabs to be released, just know that I'm currently working on making a Patreon rewards program for people who would like to support me.
